Botanical Garden Extension This area was designed over the old garden of the Clarisas Convent. The extension was conceived in the last third of the 19th century as a nursery for the Botanical Garden in Puerto de la Cruz, although most of the species planted here have remained. The extension is a haven of peace, which is unusual in La Orotava’s historical centre. It houses a unique compendium of plant species, thanks to its special conditions that make it conducive to acclimatisation. Most of the plants are of tropical origin, both African and American. It\u2019s also home to some really unusual plants for these latitudes such as the Roxburgh fig of the Himalayas. You\u2019ll also find one of the most impressive dragon-trees in La Orotava today. The extension is home to numerous birds, and a short walk through it will open your senses to a wealth of songs and plant and flower fragrances. Take a moment to enjoy and then head towards the town hall to discover its art collections. Head down the street to the town hall square and enter through the main entrance.","thumbnail_url":"https:\/\/www.laorotava.es\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/large\/public\/rutas\/verde-11.png?itok=2CU4qzKh"}
