In 1671 building began on the Convento de Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de Gracia under the patronage of the local aristocracy and under the tutelage of the Order of St. Augustine. The complex is composed of two joined buildings: the church and the convent buildings, arranged around the cloister, the work of prestigious stonemasons such Lizcano, Rodr\u00edguez Rivero, Gonz\u00e1lez Agal\u00e9 and Miranda.<\/p>\n

Highlights of the church include its central portal, with two sections, made of stone following a classical scheme. The interior structure is based on a basilica ground plan, with roofs in the Mudejar style, and subdivided into three naves by monumental columns of the Tuscan order. The convent has had various uses since it was confiscated by the state, and it now serves as the headquarters of the Municipal School of Music and Dance and other cultural institutions. The church has valuable altarpieces from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and a showcase of local and mainland Baroque imagery.<\/p>\n
