This property was built in the early seventeenth century by initiative of Lorenzo Ben\u00edtez Pereira de Lugo, later to be inherited by the Marqueses de la Florida. The cultural, social and political importance of this Marquesado meant that the mansion was a focal point for all personalities who visited La Orotava. The house is built around a central courtyard and follows the principles of Canarian architecture of the period. The fa\u00e7ade is notable for its characteristic balcony with sash window and balustrade dating from the nineteenth century. Of equal significance is the break in the fa\u00e7ade as the building was adapted to the plot of land, determined by the curve of the stretch of road on which it stands. During the twentieth century the building underwent other substantial reforms due to the demands of various commercial activities that were established there.<\/p>\n
