22 Sociedad Cultural Liceo de Taoro - Casa Ascanio
This stately mansion was built in 1928 at the behest of the married couple, Tomás de Ascanio y Méndez de Lugo and Catalina Monteverde y Lugo, following a design that has been attributed to Mariano Estanga. This building is striking for its imposing scale: a palace of dimensions that were unprecedented at the time, further enhanced by its strategic location on top of a small hill. The interior reveals the lavishness with which its owners wanted to imbue both the décor and the finishing of the materials. In addition to its architectural features, its landscape has great value; the house is surrounded by flower beds and romantic gardens that are teeming with plants. Since 1975 it has been the headquarters of the Liceo de Taoro Cultural Society.
