24 Casa Llarena Cullen

Casa Llarena Cullen 1

This property was built in the eighteenth century for Diego José Tolosa Benítez y Lucianos (1670-1722), senior judge of the Spanish Royal Court. However, in 1923 Josefa Llarena Cúllen had it renovated according to plans drawn up by Mariano Estanga, and its present aspect dates from that time. The renovation enhanced its vernacular elements, and the result is a notable example of architectural regionalism. Its characteristic window sills, or the use of balusters on another window, show a new way of reinterpreting Canarian architecture, adopting a new approach. Other aspects that stand out are the woodwork on the roofs and balconies, heraldry symbols, and chamfering.
