Casas Históricas 1

The architectural aspect of this street, formerly known as calle del Agua, and what has been preserved of the whole layout, make this a prime location for understanding the architectural development of La Orotava in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This house, built by Juan Prieto, is notable for its monumentality and the fine woodwork of its doors and windows. Opposite, on the corner of callejón de La Quinta (number 13), stands Casa Zárate y Méndez de Lugo, the identifying feature of which is the corner window with its fluted column. The other structures in this steeply sloping street demonstrate a constant feature of the architecture of La Orotava: the amphitheatre layout due to the steep terrain.
