32 Casa García de Albarracín

This home is one of the oldest preserved residences in this historic “Calle Verde” (“Green Street”), and was commissioned by Antonia García de Albarracín in the seventeenth century. It is a model that was often repeated during that century following constant architectural approaches to homes with party walls. However, in around 1926, the house underwent a substantial renovation under its then owner Agustín Hernández Hernández, mayor of La Orotava. The approach was regionalist and included profuse woodwork on windows, window sills and balconies, carried out by the Trujillo brothers. But undeniably the most striking aspect at that time was the covering of all its façades and party walls with a glazed ceramic veneer, a novelty for its time and place. The final details of this unique building are its fabulous courtyard and slender tower.
