Casa Ascanio - Hotel Alhambra 1

In around 1925, Alonso Ascanio decided to renovate an eighteenth-century house, to extend the original building and give new form to both the outside and inside of the building. The architect in charge of the new design was Mariano Estanga, who at this time was active in La Orotava satiating the demands of many clients. The external refurbishment was inspired by French architecture, particularly in the use of the mansard roof. However, the interior reflects a complex historical approach, with its stucco reproduction of a Nasrid patio. Although this decorative feature is almost unprecedented in the Orotava Valley, Estanga himself received many similar requests at the time and designed similar features in other towns of the island.
