5 Casa Monteverde

This property was built in the mid-seventeenth century by Captain Juan Monteverde Van Dalle y Espino and his wife Mariana de Ponte y Molina. Despite being in the historic centre, the 2,000 m2 plot of land isolates its green spaces from the urban environment. Highlights include its façade that articulates outwards from an elegant late Renaissance stone lintel doorway framed by classical columns. On the top floor the scheme is repeated with the addition of a balconet topped by a pediment that retains the stylistic harmony. Beyond its architectural features, this building is critical to the history of La Orotava since it was the place where the flower carpet tradition for the procession of the Blessed Sacrament in Corpus Christi originated.
