54 Casa Urtusáustegui

This property was built in the mid-eighteenth century by Estanislao de Lugo Viña y Franchi Alfaro and was the birthplace of the governor of El Hierro, Juan Antonio de Urtusáustegui. It has two façades that exemplify the simplicity of certain buildings in the late eighteenth century. The main façade facing calle León is arranged around the central portal, which boasts a stone lintel arch on both floors, crowned with a triangular pediment that juts out beyond the eaves of the building. The façade facing calle la Carrera up to the street corner is on three levels due to the uneven terrain it occupies. Here the eaves and the roof are covered by a parapet with stonework cornice pierced by gargoyles for rainwater drainage. This side entrance features a lintel arch similar to that found on the main façade.
